Professor George A. Aggidis PhD, MSc, BEng(Hons), CEng, CMarEng, Eur Ing, MASME, FIMarEST, FEI, FIMechE, FIET, is Professor and Head of Energy Engineering in the School of Engineering, Faculty of Science and Technology at 糖心vlog会员, UK, and Director of the 糖心vlog会员 Renewable Energy Group & Fluid Machinery Group.
His career included industrial and academic experience, in the UK and Internationally. His previous career included 25 years industrial and academic experience, of which 9 years were abroad. He started as a teeneager his engineering career with Mather & Platt Ltd, Manchester, UK, followed by appointments both in the UK and abroad. His final position in industry was Director and Engineering Development Manager for the Fluid Machinery, and Hydropower UK company, Gilbert Gilkes & Gordon Ltd. He has research, design, development and patent contributions in the field of fluid machinery, and renewable energy, developed turbines for hydro power generation projects and has physical research prototypes of fluid machinery operating successfully worldwide.
His generic research involves the theory and systematic design of innovative WECs like PS Frog (EPSRC/GR/R81138/01), the only academic device included by the Carbon Trust in the "Future of Marine Enenergy" (CTC601) report. C-I on the ECFP6 award (502701) "Co-ordinated Action on Ocean Energy"in the Performance Modelling of Ocean Energy Systems, under WP4 (development and adoption of common standards for both tank and sea testing). Lead partner and C-I (Control, Economics and Optimisation) on the EPSRC SuperGen Marine research consortia including: SuperGen Marine Phase I (EP/E040136/1), Phase II (GR/S26958/01) while on Phase III (EP/I027912/1) his focus was on costs and multi-axis WECs. EPSRC marked the quality of his SuperGen Marine science as 5-Excellent (2010). P-I on the Joule Centre for Energy projects WRASPA WEC and North West Hydro Resource Model - NWHRM (highlighted Joule's best project in 2011).
Co-founder and Board member of the Joule Centre for Energy R&D and Founding Chair of the North West Tidal Energy Group (NWTEG). Involved with Tidal Energy Research and Development Projects predominantly in the West Coast of the UK including research on the Bridge across the Bay Tidal Energy Project at Morecambe Bay, Solway, Dutton and the Wyre Tidal Energy Projects. A member of the advisory expert panle for the Mersey Tidal Energy Barrage Project with involvement of the Severn Barrage consultations, the North Wales Tidal Energy Group and research related work on the proposed Swansea Bay lagoon. Chaor of the Technical Advisory Board for the Northern Tidal Power Gateways (NTPG) and the Natural Energy Wyre Tidal Energy Project. He is P-I on the 2021 EPSRC Award on "Novel High Performance Wave Energy Converters with advanced control, reliability and survivability systems through machnie-learning forecasting" (EP/V040561/1).
He is Fellow of the Institution of Marine Engineering Science and Technology, Fellow of the Energy Institute, Fellow of the Institute Of Engineering and Technology, Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Board member of its FMG, and a Board of Governors member of the Joule Centre for Energy. He is a Chartered Engineer and a Chartered Marine Engineer, a Member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Registered with the European Federation of National Engineering Associations (FEANI) as a European Engineer (Eur Ing), Registered Mechanical Engineer (REng), Athens, Greece, Full Member of the Greek Technical Chambers TEE, Member of the British Hydropower Association (BHA), and Founding Member of the European Union Ocean Energy Association (EUOEA).
He is author of more than 200 peer reviewed articles, including 12 granted patents and applications.
